Comprehension
Comprehension is defined by Literacy in The Early Grades (2106, 4th Edition), by Gail E. Thompson as, "A creative, multifaceted process in which children engage with and think about the text."
Uh huh? Well...
The American Heritage Dictionary (The only dictionary, for discriminating etymologist) defines comprehension as, "The act or fact of grasping the meaning, nature or importance of; understanding" and "The knowledge that is acquired in this way."

Much more important, in my humble opinion, than discussing the metaphysical meaning of metacognitive comprehension and so forth is the meat and potatoes of HOW TO STRATEGIES to aid comprehension for any/all readers. Some helpful ideas can be found in the videos below.

Before reading the text the teacher should tell the students what they are listening for and students should JOT (Just one or two words) write one or two words for answers or let younger listeners draw pictures to demonstrate comprehension.
