Literacy Interest Inventory
The purpose of administering literacy interest inventories is to aid in selecting materials which would be appropriate not only for your classroom as a whole but also to determine materials which will motivate individual students. Below are 2 examples of literacy interest inventories.
The first example is intended for first grade or second grade students and the second example is intended for students in grades 3-5. Since the first inventory is being administered to first graders it is done one-on-one and read out loud to students. It is an informal gauge of students reading interests.

The second inventory is completed independently by students, with either pencil/written on a printed version, or students are offered the option to complete an online version. This is intended as an informal assessment used to gauge what kinds of things students are interested in as far as reading is concerned.
